How It All Began
Having grown up in a musical family, my mother was a touring gospel singer, my brother received his doctorate in music education and headed the largest HBCU music school in the country, at A&T University in Greensboro, NC., and now my son who graduated with his Master's in Jazz Piano Performance from Juilliard, NYC.

Having grown up in a musical family, my mother was a touring gospel singer, my brother received his doctorate in music education and headed the largest HBCU music school in the country, at A&T University in Greensboro, NC., and now my son who graduated with his Master's in Jazz Piano Performance from Juilliard, NYC.
Me, at age 17, while substituting for an elementary Sunday School teacher, I received the clear message that this is what I was to do in my life, and every day since, doors have opened for me to instruct children. Early on, I began one of the first tutoring programs in inner-city Knoxville in which students received higher test scores, higher grades, better attendance, and self-efficacy. It became clear that I was to cater to the center, disadvantaged, and marginalized communities.
I worked with the Joy of Music School, as the head General Education Music Teacher, Later, I went on to the University of Tennessee Community School Program as Academic/Music Specialist for a large elementary school. Both jobs catered to my desired demographics.
Eventually, I received the idea to begin a program for children to help with their academics, Singing My Homework.
Singing My Homework provides academic instruction for grades K-8 in a fun and engaging manner, utilizing music as a teaching tool, promoting learning through music, rap, rhyme, and dance.
Singing My Homework was even honored with the Positively Tennessee Award for its positive approach to engaging students in their studies by promoting increased learning and academic excellence within their core-center communities.
Singing My Homework
Years ago, I discovered a method to combine music with education, and the outcomes in students' academic achievements and the achievemtns of students have been remarkable. Even today, I encounter former students who fondly recall learning their multiplication tables, grammar, history, and even music theory, all through the power of music.
My greatest pleasure has been heeding the call on my life, receiving the gift of music, and having the intense desire and passion to do what I love!
